Job Summary:Partnership with management, effectively prepares annual and seasonal plans. Controls inventory at location level for a worldwide retail organization.
Duties and Responsibilities:Direct the distribution of goods to achieve store sales, stock turn, and gross margin goals across areas of responsibility. Ensures the company''s commitment to be in stock on key items and replenished merchandise.
- In conjunction with the Divisional Merchandise Manager (DMM) and Buyer, develops the seasonal and annual merchandise sales, gross profit and stock turn plans for one or more assigned departments. Inputs plans into Financial planning system.
- With DMM and Buyer, reviews plans against current market/business conditions and consumer trends and executes approved adjustments to plans. Participates in Buyer/vendor meetings to keep abreast of current market trends as well as the strategic goals for the department(s).
- Manages the open-to-buy process and inventory levels at the corporate / regional and store level to ensure maximum merchandise in stocks and stock turns. Oversees order placement and tracking to ensure timely receipt of merchandise.
- Prepares inventory projections. Monitors sales, receipts, and markdowns and adjusts forecasts as appropriate.
- Prepares and analyzes system reports as required to maximize sales, gross margin and manage inventory levels both at the stores and Distribution Centers.
- Gathers necessary historical financial data and analyze business plans and review season performance, in conjunction with DMM and buyer, at the appropriate department/class/vendor/style level.
- In conjunction with Forecast Analyst, review and adjust item forecast parameters for seasonal items.
- Ensures maximum store/warehouse stock levels for replenishable and advertised items. Determines stock levels for advertised items and ensure that basic stock levels are consistent with approved planograms and store sizes.
- Effectively communicates with store personnel and vendor community regarding in stock concerns and min/max levels.
- Conducts store visits as appropriate to evaluate merchandise presentation, customer demographics, stock Assortments and inventory levels. Works closely with store management to address and maximize business opportunities.
- Responsible for the supervision and development of subordinate staff as appropriate.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Works under the supervision of the Divisional Merchandise Manager. Operates independently within the framework of NEXCOM policies, procedures and regulations. Exercises independent judgment and approach in routine and non-routine situations. Consults with supervisor on such issues as policy matters, deviations from normal procedures or unusual circumstances.
Performance is evaluated on operational performance, skills evaluations, customer service, collaboration and teamwork, leadership and established individual performance objectives.
The incumbent of this position must file a Financial Disclosure Report (OGE) Form 450, as required
A Total of 5 years of experience, consisting of the following:
GENERAL EXPERIENCE:Three years of experience which was gained in professional, technical or other responsible work which enabled the applicant to gain a knowledge of retail practices; demonstrated skill in dealing with operating personnel and supervisory responsibilities; and the ability to analyze problems and recommend practical solutions using sound judgment.
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE:1 year of academic study above the high school level may be substituted for nine months of experience, up to a maximum of a four year bachelor''s degree for three years of general experience.
AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Two years of progressively responsible substantive experience which provided background in:
>Procurement practices, methods and procedures;
>Developing and managing an open to buy system;
>Developing seasonal financial plans;
>Preparation of inventory projections;
>Monitoring and maintenance of sales, inventory levels and stock turns;
>Review and analysis of sales, inventory and profit trends; >Database/spreadsheet software applications, and
>Supervisory responsibility of human resources; or similar responsible work that demonstrated the knowledge and ability within one or more operational or merchandising areas of non-appropriated fund or private sector retail management
